Overview

The Unix Engineering team is responsible for the strategy, engineering and delivery of the Linux and UNIX platforms within the bank.
Our focus is on automating all aspects of deployment, configuration, testing and management of the hardware, firmware, OS and clustering stack by integrating tooling into a larger continuous integration framework and pipeline.

Our team’s deliverables are:

  • Core builds for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Suse Linux Enterprise Server, Oracle Enterprise Linux, Solaris and AIX;
  • Supporting legacy build patterns, clustering;
  • Supporting patch cluster creation for the Linux/UNIX estate;
  • Hardware selection and ongoing certification;
  • Creation and delivery of automation components;
  • Level 3/4 Subject Matter Expert support for critical problems within the estate.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering standard OS builds and layered products, RedHat Enterprise Linux, Suse Linux Enterprise Server, Oracle Enterprise Linux, Solaris, AIX;
  • Testing of components to ensure compatibility and safety;
  • Developing automation to reduce toil and privileged access;
  • Writing technical documentation, including design documentation, training materials, and white papers;
  • Management and ownership of selected critical problem cases within the bank, drive through to resolution as level 3/4 subject matter expertise engineering resource;
  • Evolve existing tooling for firmware management, chassis management, etc.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Detailed understanding of Linux;
  • In-depth knowledge of RedHat Enterprise Linux, Suse Linux Enterprise Server;
  • Broad knowledge of other UNIX Operating Systems and associated add-on technology stacks;
  • OS level problem determination, problem analysis and tuning experience (memory, disk, network, file system, network, database, etc.);
  • Experience with automation tools, git/stash/Bitbucket, TeamCity/Jenkins, Jira, Confluence;
  • Scripting skills (Python, Perl, shell).

How You’ll Lead

  • Working with the security team, you will drive system patching within Deutsche Bank to provide a secure environment for our workloads;
  • Developing your automation expertise to control and report on configuration drift will reduce technical debt and drive consistency;
  • Contribute to next generation operating system image creation and accelerate the drive to image-based deployments.
