Technology Infrastructure – End User Computing

Role Description

The Desktop team, within the ‘End User Computing’ division, is responsible for the delivery of the Windows Desktop OS, physical device hardware, and a set of core applications used by all Deutsche Bank staff. The team loosely follows the Spotify Agile model and is structured into delivery teams (squads) that are each accountable for a specific set of technologies.

The Desktop Engineering squad design and engineer Windows desktop builds for all physical and virtual platforms. The Desktop Engineering Manager position will manage a team of engineers, directly engineer solutions themselves, and act as scrum master for the Desktop Engineering squad.

The Desktop Engineering squad defines global hardware standards for desktop devices as well as OS configuration and patching. Please note that we are not looking for support staff, but for someone to be a part of, and run, a team of highly skill SME resources that perform day-to-day design and engineering tasks for the desktop environment of Deutsche Bank.

The Desktop Engineering Manager will also act as local lead for other Desktop functions in the country, overseeing a few local Bucharest staff that directly report to managers outside of Bucharest.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the team delivers stable solutions, on time, which meet all requirements;
  • Drive adoption of, and adherence to, Agile best practices;
  • Report on performance of individual Desktop Engineers, working to improve their performance and skills;
  • Estimate task duration during sprint planning, and deliver to those estimates;
  • Communicate regularly with the Product Owner on delivery dates and status;
  • Assist the product owner in estimating effort and duration amounts for tasks;
  • Advise the product owner on technical decisions;
  • Provide direct management and oversight of the team, ensuring tight integration among members, and a healthy work environment.

The team itself will:

  • Analyse user requirements, and design and build solutions;
  • Define and create automated and manual testing procedures;
  • Create design and architecture documents;
  • Create KB articles for L2 and L1 teams;
  • Act as L3 for production issues;
  • Liaise with peers in other infrastructure teams to ensure designs fit their needs;
  • Work with global peers to ensure cross-team knowledge transfer.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 4-6 years of experience managing a team of engineers
  • 4-6 years of experience engineering (design, create, deploy, troubleshoot) these technologies in an enterprise environment:
    • Windows 7 and Windows 10 physical client builds,
    • Windows 7 and Windows 10 virtualized platform templates,
    • Core Windows technologies (e.g.) Group Policy, roaming profiles, offline files, folder redirection;
  • Practical working experience of major OS migrations;
  • Admin scripting e.g. PowerShell, VBScript and Batch files;
  • MECM/SCCM based patching and OS deployment / task sequences;
  • Infrastructure knowledge e.g. AD, DFS, DNS, WAN, SAN and DHCP;
  • Experience with defining end user hardware products;
  • Avecto DefendPoint infrastructure and rulesets;
  • Updating ADMX /ADML files;
  • BIOS and OS Driver management;
  • Windows Defender, Bitlocker, and security configurations;
  • Penetration testing of the OS, and response to security audits;
  • Blancco, or equivalent disk destruction technologies.
